1997

A Family Business In Constant Motion.

The history is presented as a visual journey: alternating archive-inspired imagery, milestones and the moments that shaped LPM from a local plumbing merchant into a multi-department interiors destination.

1997

The Beginning

Established in 1997 as Leigh Plumbing Merchants, we began life as a traditional plumbing and heating merchant, supplying essential trade products to professional tradespeople and the local community.

Our two original founders came from extensive backgrounds within the building trade themselves. Their first-hand experience and knowledge of the industry allowed them to understand what tradespeople really needed, not only from the products they purchased, but from the people they dealt with.

Those early relationships became the foundation of the business. Customers quickly became familiar faces, and many became close friends. With the support and loyalty of the local trade community, Leigh Plumbing Merchants grew from a small independent merchant into a trusted and respected local business.

1997

Bathroom & Tiles

Having established ourselves within the plumbing and heating trade, the natural next step was to expand into bathrooms and tiles.

At the time, gaining access to some of Europe's leading bathroom manufacturers was not easy. For many established European brands, London and the South East represented the more traditional destinations for premium products, while the North West was a less obvious choice.

We saw an opportunity to change that.

As our showroom developed, manufacturers began to recognise the potential of Leigh Plumbing Merchants as a destination for high-quality bathrooms and tiles in the North West. This allowed us to introduce and showcase some of the industry's most respected names during that time, including Villeroy & Boch, Jacuzzi, Kohler and Hansgrohe, Laufen.

This marked an important change in the direction of the business, from simply supplying products to creating an environment where customers could experience them.

2010

A New Home

In 2010, Leigh Plumbing Merchants moved into a new home on Chapel Street: a purpose-built, multi-storey showroom designed to take the business to the next level.

The new showroom gave us the space to expand our offering, introduce a greater variety of products and create more ambitious displays.
It officially opened in November 2010, with the opening ribbon cut by none other than Andy Burnham, who would later go on to become Mayor of Greater Manchester.

The move represented more than simply a new location. It was a statement of ambition for an independent business from Leigh.

Destination Showroom

With our new premises came the opportunity to create something different.

Across three floors, we developed a curated collection of bathrooms and tiles from some of the world's most prestigious manufacturers, creating a showroom designed to inspire as well as sell.

Leigh Plumbing Merchants became a destination for customers looking for quality, design and products that were not readily available everywhere else.

Our foundations remained firmly within the trade, but the business was increasingly becoming a destination for homeowners looking to create something exceptional.

2019–2021

A Surreal Period

Then came a period none of us could have predicted.

As COVID-19 brought much of the UK economy to a standstill, our trusted trade counter once again became the heart of the business.

While many businesses were forced to close their doors, we continued supplying essential plumbing and heating products to local tradespeople and supporting the community that had supported us for more than two decades.

It was a reminder of where we had come from and just how important our relationships with the trade remained.

2022

A New Chapter

In 2022, we embarked on one of the biggest transformations in our history.

An extension to our additional building increased the overall showroom by around 50%, giving us the space to introduce two long-planned divisions: kitchens and hot tubs.

At the same time, our Trade Counter moved into its own dedicated location, allowing it to develop its own identity and evolve into what is now LPM Trade.

For the first time, Leigh Plumbing Merchants could offer customers a complete approach to home renovation — from bathrooms and tiles to kitchens, outdoor wellness and everything in between.

2023-2024

A New Generation

Following the showroom transformation and the introduction of our new divisions, the business entered another significant chapter as operations were handed to the second generation.

With a fresh perspective came a renewed focus on modernising the business while preserving the values on which it was built.

We refreshed our visual identity, modernised our operations and developed a much stronger presence online and across social media.

Our Instagram community grew to more than 100,000 followers, introducing LPM to an entirely new generation of customers while continuing to serve the trade customers who had supported us from the beginning.

2025-2026

Evolving The LPM Family

As each area of the business continued to grow, it became clear that each deserved its own identity and space to develop.

LPM Kitchens evolved into Sanaa Kitchen Studio, creating a dedicated destination for premium kitchen design.

Our wellness division became Thermae, bringing together hot tubs, wellness and outdoor living.

And LPM Trade continued to strengthen its relationship with the trade community, building on the foundations established back in 1997.

While the names and divisions have evolved, the philosophy remains the same.
We are still an independent business built on expertise, relationships and a genuine understanding of our customers.

What started in 1997 as a plumbing merchant has grown into a collection of specialist destinations for the home but the foundations remain exactly where they have always been.
